37% - Support Gay Marriage - Yahoo! News

support for gay marriage still low

I think part of the problem is that it hasn't properly. Rosie isn't a great sell to middle America. also, telling people they are stupid bigots when they disagree with you isn't the way to get social change.
If gay rights are presented as a civil rights issue they carry more weight than if they are discussed as an entitlement.

BBQ chicken
I used the electric smoker yesterday on a bunch of chicken leg quarters. I used a poultry rub and they were cooked low and sloe over mesquite smoke. To make sure they were done I wanted to check the juices at the thigh – drumstick joint. I cut the skin and pulled on the drumstick—it came out – I think they were done.
Up here we then to use a vinegar/pepper/brown sugar thin sauce. It was great almost as good as I’ve ever had.
BTW the sauce was low carb as I used a fake brown sugar.

Grocery closings hit Detroit hard

no national food store chains in Detroit

they cite high turnover, security and theft. Add to that the general low margins in the industry and the de facto requirement that any store like that be unionized and no wonder a national chain will move in.
Some people ought to be happy as the terrible folks like WalMart have been kept out and only nice locally owned shops exist. However, it would appear the locals aren't too happy.

Of course the mayor seems to blame the companies-- they could do more. It never occurs to big city mayors that if a profit could be made someone would try.

WCBS to return to oldies format | Crain's New York Business

The market speaks and even N.Y. radio people listen

WCBS had a problem its demographic was old and so the change was made from an oldies station. To a hip with it new format called “jack.” Jack is sort of a random play with some oldies and contemporary music played at random with no on air personalities. It worked real well as the ratings and the ad revenue were both down.

Oldies start again soon and perhaps a more updated oldies list.

He is basically sending letters to the little league administration demanding apologies and sending signals that he will sue. He also threatened the newspaper not to say he plans to sue.

This guy is just one level from being the pants suit lawyer and needs to be made a national laughingstock.

We try to illustrate the use of branding and how you have some brand loyalty even if you can’t really tell the difference.
Years ago I seem to remember that only about ten percent of people could pick out “their” brand. However, they still would buy that brand.
This loyalty can be the result of advertising and peer or referent groups.

Foot Patrols Lead To Less Crime In Boston, More Cops On The Street Have Helped Cut Down On Serious Crime - CBS News

solve vs prevent

It seems foot patrols tend to prevent crime. While riding around in cars with radios allows you to be on the scene faster after crime has occurred.
This would be the same argument about terrorism. Do we try to prevent it or do we “bring them to justice” later.

I’m a prevention guy.

Sony has no plans to cut PlayStation 3 price | Reuters

Sony is on a tough position

Not to say I feel sorry for them or that they didn’t create it . They came out with an overpriced game system—the “experts” say very overpriced. The WII is kicking their ass. But the system also has a HD DVD player. Any price drop effectively cuts the intro price of the DVD. They want that high to get the early adopters. So either cut the price and hurt your DVD market or keep the price and let the ps3 systems stay on the shelf.

BTW the article says that a price cut will stimulate demand – pedantic point it will alter quantity demanded. A different concept altogether.

BBQ report

I tried out my sunbeam electric smoker today. I had never done a Boston butt before. It does take a very long time. However, low and slow produced some BBQ that was moist, very tender, smoky and tasty.
Next time I will remember that about 1.5 hours per pound is more of a decent guide than one hour; that I need more salt in the dry rub and more hickory chunks near the heating element.
We tried two sauces—one a prepared red sauce that reminded me of Alabama and a home made version of an eastern Carolina vinegar sauce. I made mine a little sweeter than the rest of the folks here--- still had a kick but also sweet.
The other thing is we sliced the BBQ and didn’t pull it.
All in all it was worth the effort especially since the meat was on sale at 97 cents a pound.
Saturday will be chicken quarters in the smoker.
