U.S. representative Delahunt is a moron

ProFootballTalk.com -- The Best Pro Football Scoop on the Internet
You might have scroll down to find this but this guy—Delahunt is proposing changing the entire labor relations law in the U.S. or carving out something special for the NFL. Most of this based on the “fact” that the retired players are getting large sums of money and have a hard time proving disability.

O Canada

CityNews: City Slaps Storm-Trapped Car With Parking Tickets

Apparently the Canadian justice system and the petty police are morons also.
Storm pulls down trees—blocks people from moving their cars—meter maid types [using their own discretion] give the people tickets as they wait for the city to come move the limbs.

Idiots!!!

typical

Wealthy builder ordered to pay £200,000 to wife he divorced 30 years ago the Daily Mail
Typical for English justice—right and also typical of the way liberals think. The poor woman never worked but she made bad investments and someone – in this case her ex should just give her something. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair and all.
This judge is a moron and not a small one.

IBM in Bind on $5M Debt Owed by Schools - New York Times

IBM in Bind on $5M Debt Owed by Schools - New York Times

standard liberal BS

Why can’t the school district have something for nothing? Let’s review—buy computers, don’t pay for them, negotiate a fixed lower price, stall it without apparent interest for a decade and a half then ask for the debt to be forgiven.

Yep sounds about what you would expect.

Court Backs Sports Recruiting Limits - New York Times

Court Backs Sports Recruiting Limits - New York Times

is it just me or is it the court

I’m agreeing with just about all they have to say today. In this case they ruled that a sports association can enforce recruiting rules without violating the free speech rights of the coaches.
Basically, a big money high school in Tennessee wanted to do as it pleased.

High Court Ruling on Prison Sentences - New York Times

High Court Ruling on Prison Sentences - New York Times

someone needs to explain this to me
The federal government has laws and sentencing guidelines. Thus you are found guilty, the sentence is imposed within the guidelines and you sue to have it reduced. 6 justices said this wasn’t going to be easy. Also looks like the “civil libertarian” read “anti- punishment crowd seems to be against this new ruling.

1924 Everest Mystery Still Unanswered - New York Times

listen to Sir Edmund

Some people are obsessed with the idea that these folks made it to the top of Everest in 1924. it seem they have to “prove” that they were the first.

What did Sir Edmund say—something to the effect that getting to the top was important but so was getting back down.

Cameras May Watch You Take Tests Online

Cameras May Watch You Take Tests Online

no this isn’t big brother
This is a real problem or at least is perceived to be. The unspoken fear of online education is that we have no way of knowing who is actually taking the tests. The camera would help with that.
I hope the civil liberties folks don’t kill it before we see if it helps.

BTW the software also locks out the computer from doing anything except take the test.

My Way News - Bush to Veto Stem Cell Bill

My Way News - Bush to Veto Stem Cell Bill

I’m really trying

But so is he—different meaning of the word I guess. I’m really trying to find something to like about the way this administration has turned out. However, Bush is starting to look a lot like Jimmy Carter. Narrow, isolated and taking counsel of only his own insiders. All of whom apparently will not say anything that contradicts what the boss wants.
|
not much today I think
My teaching starts back tomorrow so today is filled with finishing up things for the class. This is the online course and I’m trying something different. My syllabus is sort of convoluted so I will put the difficult parts on power point, narrate it and then upload it as a flash file. I hope this helps them and lessens the questions I will normally get.
I also have some reviewing for a meeting next fall. I have to read a few papers and make recommendations as to acceptance.

I also have to study for my ASL class tonight—we have a test.
All in all a very academic day.

I don’t fancy her or for that matter the judge
I really don’t think everyone in his court gets treated like this. He seems to want to make a name for himself and he has done it. What he did do however is buy himself scrutiny. You know she/her family has the cash to hire people to check every one of his cases. Every time he rules differently from this it will be sent to the judicial board. This guy just bought himself a wealthy set of legal stalkers.

I never perceived them as a strong player in the market
What is missing in this article is any mention of Wal-Mart. When wal-Mart started deep discounts around Christmas then marginal players knew the deal was up. Dell only seemed in it when the margins were high. They understand selling a commodity and didn’t need another one.

Nope—they however would have been first in line to “being the people to justice.” The faith some people have in the judicial system is strange. You still hear that from some –we must bring whoever to trial. I guess when what you figure to be your finest hour comes from the courts and not the legislature then you get to view the world that way.
